What is The Compost Cook?
A cooking blog, turned travel blog, turned fitness guide, turned self-acceptance journey… Even though the blog’s purpose seems to be constantly evolving, its purpose isn’t.
It is about looking up, growing up and above all not giving up.
I started The Compost Cook in the winter of 2011, as a leap of faith in myself. Cooking is something that I’ve been passionate about since I can remember…when I was 8 all I wanted for Christmas was measuring cups, when I was 12 I only read cooking-themed books, when I was 13 I wrote my first cooking-show pitch. Yes, a love of cooking is in my DNA.
As I got older my love of cooking and food evolved into an appreciation for quality food and food that made you feel good, or even great. Meals are magical because they allow walls to come down, histories to be shared and memories to be made. Good food is the key to unlocking those experiences.
Where does fitness come in? Well, I developed my love of fitness, I was not born with it. The lack of athletic genes in my family is common joke, since my mom was the manager of the badminton team and my dad was the president of the parking club….no, I’m not exactly the child of Serena Williams and Andi Roddick. However, one day after gym class in middle school my teacher asked if I wanted to join cross country, I had friends on the team, so agreed without thinking about what I was getting myself into. Fast-forward 12 years later and I’m still running: 5Ks, 10Ks, ½ marathons. However, due to running so much, I developed arthritis in my knees and had to recently stop. This year, running was traded in for weights and biking and I couldn’t be happier.
Now, my biggest passions are food and fitness. They’re what I dream about, they’re what I talk about, and of course, they’re what I write about.
Thanks for stopping by The Compost Cook, and be sure to keep coming back.
